Daily Excerpt: Everybody's Little Book of Everyday Prayers - Prayers of Thanks

Prayers of Thanks
From prayers of supplication, it’s
logical that we move, next, to prayers of thanks. After all, we were all
brought up to say, “Thank you,” at the appropriate times, which includes
thanking someone who gives us a gift or does something nice for us, and
certainly that rule is just as applicable in our ongoing dialogues with God. If
we asked Him for something, and we got what we asked for, isn’t it only proper
to tell God, “Thank You”? Here are some prayers thanking God in various
situations.
Thanking God for answering a
prayer/granting a wish
Thank
you, merciful God, for answering my prayer/granting my wish. I am truly
grateful for Your beneficence and mindful that Your hand is in all that
happens, and I have You to thank for all good things that occur in my life. I
will not forget You, forget Your power, forget Your beneficence, or fail to
appreciate what You have done for me. Amen.

prayer/granting a wish – children’s prayer
Dear
God, thank You so much for __________. You know how much I wanted for it to
happen, and I really am glad that it did. I know I have You to thank, so I want
to say thank You with all my heart. Amen.
Thanking God for good fortune
O
Lord, the source of all good fortune and good tidings, thank You so much for
this good thing that has happened to me, _______. May I never fail to be
appreciative of Your benevolence and beneficence. May I never fail to praise
You as You deserve for Your loving kindness and Your many gifts. As I look back
at the various and many good things, large and small, that have happened to me,
I see Your hand over all and know that You are the source of all good fortune.
Therefore do I thank You greatly! Amen.

Something
good has happened,
And
I know God’s the source.
Though
people made some difference,
God
made it so, of course.
I
thank God for his goodness,
From
early morn’ till night.
His
power to make us happy,
Is
this world’s shining light.
Thanking God for good health
O,
merciful and loving God, thank You for my good health, which I do not wish to
take for granted. Many in this world suffer from illness, many of these
illnesses serious, and so I know that I am very fortunate to be in good health.
I know that I have You to thank for this, as I have You to thank for all
blessings. It is my hope that You will continue to keep me in good health, but
whatever the future holds, I am grateful to be in good health now. Thank You
for Your kindness and mercy. Amen.
Thanking God for good health –
children’s prayer
When
I am sick, You cure me.
You
keep me well most days.
Your
love for me, You show me,
In
these and other ways.
Good
health is so important,
And
being fit and strong.
For
helping me be healthy,
I
thank You all day long.
Thanking God for good news
O,
God, Who is the source of all good, thank You for this good news that I have
just received. Truly You are beneficent, and Your goodness is mirrored in the
blessings You bestow. I am especially grateful now for the news that _______.
May I never fail to appreciate You and Your goodness and kindness, and may the
life I live reflect my appreciation of You and Your wonderful benevolence.
Amen.
Thanking God for good news –
children’s prayer
Thank
You, God, for this good news,
As
I raise my voice to praise
God,
who is both wise and kind,
And
keeps watch through all my days.
