I'm often asked about gender nonconformity. They ask me because I’m a teacher and a social worker. They come to me because of my work with nontypical kids and teens for over 20 years. They come to me because they trust me to be nonjudgmental of those trying to learn. Then they guiltily admit that they want to be inclusive
yet they just don't get it. They practically beg me to help them understand why, why someone would identify with a different gender than the one assigned at birth
to them. What I tell them is this:
