A Publisher's Conversation with Authors: How to Leverage a Good Bestseller Sales Ranking
It is Tuesday. Monday's madness is over, and Wednesday will take us over the hump, so Tuesday it is--for some serious discussion with authors. Tuesday talks mean to address authors in waiting and self-published authors who would like to go a more traditional route or who would at least like to take their steps with a publisher by their side.
"Holy cow!" wrote one author earlier today upon learning his book was #5 on the Amazon hot new release book list. "How do I leverage that?"
The answer is easy--and important. Whether the ranking is on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or someplace else, you leverage it in the following ways (and more):
- Use it everywhere.
- Add it to your byline.
- Put it in your press release.
- Share it in your newsletter.
- Flaunt it on your website.
- Mention it in requests for reviews.
- Include it in your workshop materials.
- Distribute a special press release that touts it.
- Repeat it on your social media platforms again and agin.
- Announce it on your blog.
- Post it on prlog.
- Spread the word however you can.
- Think about producing and using a visual that shares the information subtly wherever appropriate.
- Make sure your publisher knows -- publishers do not have the resources to comb rankings for all books every day; authors need to take responsibility for following the rankings of their books.
Bottom line: A good ranking is special; treat it that way and make a loud noise about it wherever you can and a soft noise where a loud noise may not be appropriate.
Lesson for today's Tuesday talk: A good ranking is a great sales point. Leverage it!
