Commemorating 106 Years Since the 19th Amendment: MSI Press Celebrates Women’s Progress
On June 4, 1919, Congress passed the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, granting women the right to vote. It would take another year for full ratification, but this milestone marked a turning point—a hard-won step toward equality in a society that long denied women basic rights.
Today, 106 years later, we at MSI Press honor the women who fought for suffrage and reflect on the progress made—and the work still to be done. While true gender equality remains a work in progress, we are proud to stand on the shoulders of generations of courageous women by fostering an environment where women lead, innovate, create, and influence.
Just looking at MSI Press today reveals how far we’ve come. Our publishing house is co-founded and managed by a woman veteran—an unthinkable role for a woman in 1919. Many of our senior staff positions are held by women, including our copyeditors, copywriter, associate publicist, newsletter editor, and marketing assistant. These are not tokens—they are leaders, professionals, and shapers of our voice and mission.
Even more inspiring is the breadth and brilliance of our women authors. In a world where women once needed a husband’s permission to own property, take out a loan, or attend certain universities, our authors today are doing what would have been unimaginable in the early 20th century. Consider just a few:
-
Elizabeth Mahlou has worked across continents to support ministries of education in improving national school systems.
-
Brittany Renzi owns and operates her own gym, a business founded on strength, autonomy, and vision.
-
Many of our authors are professors, leading academic thought and mentoring the next generation.
Across our catalog, our women authors represent an impressive range of professions—roles that women were barred from, steered away from, or severely underrepresented in only a few decades ago. Today, they are:
-
Advocates
-
Astronaut and diplomat trainers
-
Authors
-
Business and industrial psychologists
-
Corporate executives
-
Counselors
-
Educators
-
Entrepreneurs
-
Forensic psychologists
-
Lawyers
-
Language program managers
-
Marketing and advertising specialists
-
Pastors
-
Pharmacologists
-
Physical therapists
-
Podcasters
-
Professors
-
Psychotherapists
-
Public health nurses and administrators
-
Public relations professionals
-
Researchers
-
Social workers
-
Television show hosts
-
Trauma specialists
-
U.S. government leaders
Each of these women stands as a powerful reminder that when barriers are removed, brilliance rises. These accomplishments not only reflect personal triumph but collectively represent the growing reality of what women can do when given the chance.
And yet, we are mindful: the struggle is not over. Gender-based inequities persist in pay, leadership opportunities, representation, and societal expectations. That is why anniversaries like today matter—not as an endpoint, but as a call to action.
As we mark 106 years since the 19th Amendment passed, MSI Press recommits itself to amplifying women’s voices, publishing their truths, and supporting their journeys. The women of MSI Press—our staff, our authors, our readers—are living proof that progress is not only possible, but powerful.
Let us celebrate how far we’ve come and honor those who made it possible—by continuing the work they began.
