💧 Faith That Weeps

 


Faith does not demand that we stop crying or “move on.” It allows us to grieve fully, knowing that love is stronger than death.

In Scripture, even Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus. His tears remind us that sorrow is not a failure of faith — it’s part of love’s expression. The Son of God did not stand apart from human pain; He entered it. He didn’t rush to the resurrection moment. He paused in the ache of loss, honoring the weight of what had been broken.

Faith gives permission to feel everything: the anger, the confusion, the silence. It doesn’t erase the human experience; it sanctifies it. It whispers, You are not alone in this. It holds space for lament and for hope to coexist — for tears to fall even as trust remains.

Grief, in the light of faith, becomes a kind of prayer. Each tear says, This mattered. This love was real. And faith answers, Yes — and it still is.

To believe is not to bypass sorrow but to carry it differently: with the quiet assurance that every loss is seen, every cry heard, and every beloved soul held in a love that does not end.

Beautifully written balm for the bereaved

Lamentations of the Heart, Mingled with Peace and Joy, is aptly named and provides an enormous fount of solace and inspiration from cover to cover. Ms. Wells-Smith writes a faith-driven, emotionally and intellectually intelligent book of poetry and prose, each piece interwoven with a scriptural citation, that delves into her own experience with becoming a member of a club none of us would ever want to apply for, those of us who have lost a beloved child and are left with putting our lives back together as best we can, one foot after another, as well as prose about events and people that have led her to the place in life that she can find peace and joy. It is deeply personal and because of that spoke to my own heart in ways that are hard to describe. I will return to this book at times because it has given me much to think about, which is the best kind of literature.
