Cancer Diary: When Your Feet Whisper, "You May Have Cancer"

 


Most people never think to look at their feet for signs of cancer. But sometimes, the body whispers through small changes — and the feet are part of that conversation.

  • Cancer doesn’t always announce itself loudly.

  • Melanoma can appear on the soles, under toenails, or between toes — places we rarely examine.

  • A dark streak under a nail, a sore that doesn’t heal, or a spot that changes color can be early warnings.

  • These signs don’t predict cancer; they reveal it early, if we’re paying attention.

  • Feet are often misread — lesions mistaken for bruises, warts, or fungal infections.

  • Because of that, foot cancers are frequently diagnosed late.

  • The simplest act of prevention is awareness: look, notice, and ask.

Healing begins with noticing. The body keeps speaking, even through the smallest surfaces —and sometimes, the feet carry the first message.

A Publisher's Conversation with Authors: De-confusing Royalty Structure

  Authors frequently confuse LIST and NET and, in this way, end up with contracts that pay lower royalties when they believe that they are getting a good deal. Often, they cannot negotiate in ways that benefit themselves because they do not understand this difference and its significance. Let's break this down. List refers to the retail price of the book. Payment on list means a percentage of the retail price of the book. If royalties are 8% of list (5-8% is typical), then on a $10 book, royalties would be 80 cents; if they are 10%, royalties are $1, on every book sold. Easy to calculate, easy to predict income, and always standardized, no surprises or overestimations. Net refers to what is leftover after expenses.
