Caturday: "From the heart of Gaza...Sukkar and I live despite death"

 


Hadeel is a young woman in Gaza, struggling to stay alive and to care for her once-feisty, now very sick cat, Sukkar.

Tuesday is a very important day. It is the date on which the vet will provide lifesaving surgery IF the funding is available. It is also the date by which another $74 in funding must be secured. As Hadeel writes, "That is only $5 each from 15 people."

Here is Hadeel's story:

My name is Hadeel Jalal, a 27 years-old, Architectural engineer and content creator. I used to create content for almost 500k people worldwide and help others create their content to make their voices heard and start their businesses. But this war made my dream to help more people disappear when I lost my filming studio and my tech gear.

Sukkar is my cat, my first cat, the one who introduced me to a lovely world full of happiness. He is 2 years old now. We met in Istanbul when he was only 40 days old, and since then we can't separate. Sukkar for 7 months now hasn't had any vaccinations, which threatens his life. Moreover, he had no special cat food, and he refused to eat canned food. All I want for him is to be safe away from this horrible war.

  Authors frequently confuse LIST and NET and, in this way, end up with contracts that pay lower royalties when they believe that they are getting a good deal. Often, they cannot negotiate in ways that benefit themselves because they do not understand this difference and its significance. Let's break this down. List refers to the retail price of the book. Payment on list means a percentage of the retail price of the book. If royalties are 8% of list (5-8% is typical), then on a $10 book, royalties would be 80 cents; if they are 10%, royalties are $1, on every book sold. Easy to calculate, easy to predict income, and always standardized, no surprises or overestimations. Net refers to what is leftover after expenses.
