Doah indicated from a very early age that he had quite a capacity for embarrassing his parents. Come to think of it, at 47, he still exhibits that now highly honed talent.

The first incident occurred when he was about three years old. He was just beginning to talk, and he was still so small from his early issues--CHARGE Syndrome, tracheotomy, prematurity--that I was holding him like an infant while the doctor, with a nurse standing next to him, explained to me what he would be doing during the visit (normal stuff). 

Suddenly, Doah reached out and grabbed the shoulder of the nurse and the shoulder of the doctor and tried to push them together, saying, "Kiss! Kiss!" 

Yeah, not so normal stuff. With many more incidents to come.

  Authors frequently confuse LIST and NET and, in this way, end up with contracts that pay lower royalties when they believe that they are getting a good deal. Often, they cannot negotiate in ways that benefit themselves because they do not understand this difference and its significance. Let's break this down. List refers to the retail price of the book. Payment on list means a percentage of the retail price of the book. If royalties are 8% of list (5-8% is typical), then on a $10 book, royalties would be 80 cents; if they are 10%, royalties are $1, on every book sold.
