Mohamed Mosa: Lover of Cats from Palestine

Cats and Their People — Mohamed and the Neighborhood Cats & Dogs

Muhammed Musa Rashad Haraz (@SARAMoh69489245 on X) has entrusted me with creating and managing this crowdfunding campaign so him and his family can evacuate Gaza. All the money raised will go towards paying the evacuation fees so they can enter Egypt and find some much needed safety, as well as subsequent necessities like accomodation and food, once they cross the border.

Muhammed loves cats and rescues many of them, even during this difficult time. He feeds them and cares for them, despite the living conditions in Gaza getting worse and worse.

He lost his house in the bombings. Finding money to buy a tent has been hard, let alone the funds to pay the exorbitant prices asked of those who wish to cross the border to Egypt. Food is expensive and hard to come by ,but he still does his best to feed the animals in his care. He also has a young daughter, Maria, and wishes to protect her from further harm, she is just one and a half years old and has gone through more than anyone should in such a short time.

You can follow Mohaned Twitter and communicate with him at

If you wish to donate (even $5 helps and even $1 helps), you can do so through GoFundMe: Help Mohamed and His Family Survive (organized by Matilde Cunha)

And in your kindness, do not forget other needs that remain urgent:

update: Lucy may not have much time left. Lucy's condition is deteriorating. Her little body is growing weaker from malnutrition, and Abod has to watch her suffer while being unable to afford the food she desperately needs.

Update: We are facing two urgent battles at once: finding enough food for our children, our family, and our rescued cats, and repairing the damaged home that is supposed to protect us all.
🌧️ Our first fear is the approaching winter. The bombardment during the war left our home with deep cracks in its walls, holes in the roofs, and damage that urgently needs repair. As heavy rain, cold weather, and winter storms approach, these openings threaten to let water inside, leaving our living spaces damp, cold, and unsafe. Our children and family need a home that can protect them from the elements. The rescued cats in our care also need a dry, secure shelter where they can escape the cold and rain. We urgently need materials and repairs to seal the gaps, reinforce damaged walls, and make the roofs safer before winter arrives. We are terrified of facing another season of hardship without adequate protection. 💔 At the same time, putting food on the table and filling the cats' bowls is becoming harder every day.

Lucy [Bella's sister] is suffering from severe malnutrition. Her tiny body needs food and medical treatment, and I’m trying desperately to raise enough money, but I still haven’t reached the amount she needs.

Hadeel: From the heart of Gaza..Sukkar and I live despite death
🚨‼️8 days left, and I'm honestly terrified.💔
If we lose this room, I don't know how I'll keep Sukkar safe or find his food. He relies on me for everything. We still need $308 for rent. Could 62 people spare $5? Or please RT.

Sharif (Gaza): For lack of $100, Lulu is dying [$70 still desperately needed, condition worsening]

This post continues a weekly Caturday series, Cats and Their People: Stories from Conflict Zones. Each installment follows one person and their furs — in Afghanistan, Gaza, Israel, Syria, Ukraine, or wherever survival has become a daily act of devotion. Every story is told with the owner’s request to share. The aim is simple: to bring humanity into places where life has been stripped to its barest essentials, and to show how people and animals hold on together. When appropriate, each post will include ways readers can support the individuals featured.

Guest Post from Dr. Dennis Ortman: Words Matter

Image
WORDS MATTER “If I speak with human tongues and angelic as well, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong, a clanging symbol.” --I Corinthians 13: 1   My three brothers recently visited from afar. We spent a week together crammed into my small apartment. We exhausted ourselves talking about our lives and our favorite subjects--religion, psychology, and politics. I daily used up my quota of words. Many family and friends avoid talking about these subjects to avoid conflict. But we relish the give-and-take of debate. Coincidentally, the Republican National Convention was televised each night. We watched it diligently and exchanged views. Our convictions ranged across the political spectrum. So our conversations were animated, our disagreements passionate. However, at the end of the week, we learned something from each other and parted friends. Words matter. They have power. Our traditions attest to this fact. For example, God created the world with His word. He be...

In Memoriam: Carl Don Leaver

Image
1948-2021 It is with great sadness that MSI Press notes the death of Carl Leaver, CEO of the Press and typesetter and graphic designer par excellence . Many authors have expressed not only condolences but also a sense of legacy from covers he designed that they love.  Here is his obituary: On August 16, 2021, Carl Don Leaver of San Juan Bautista passed into eternal rest. A forester with the US Forest Service in Idaho and Montana, he turned to nature photography while working in the Bitterroot National Forest. His photographs graced national magazine covers and on a weekly basis the local paper of Hamilton, MT, the Ravalli Republican. He later worked on photography projects for the US Army (AFEES) and taught photography at the New York Institute of Technology in Amman, Jordan. His final career change led him to computer graphics and publishing as co-owner of MSI Press LLC; his many typeset books and book covers have helped MSI Press authors win a large number of awards over t...

Transformation Tuesday: Choosing Boundaries Over Resentment

Image
Most of us are taught to be agreeable long before we’re taught to be honest. We learn how to smooth things over, how to keep the peace, how to swallow the discomfort so no one else has to feel it. And for a while, it works—until it doesn’t. Resentment is what grows in the space where a boundary should have been. It starts quietly: a sigh you don’t let out, a “yes” you didn’t mean, a need you talk yourself out of because it feels inconvenient. But resentment is cumulative. It builds layer by layer, until suddenly you’re carrying a weight you can’t name, only feel. Choosing boundaries over resentment is the moment you decide to stop abandoning yourself. A boundary is not a punishment. It’s not a wall. It’s not a rejection. A boundary is simply the truth about what you can hold—and what you can’t. It sounds like: “I can’t take this on right now.” “That doesn’t work for me.” “I need time before I respond.” “I care about you, and I need this to change.” It’s direct, but no...
